Is the app free? Are there ads?
It is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login.
Where is my data stored?
Only on your phone. We cannot see it. See the Privacy Policy for details.
The prayer times differ from my mosque. What can I do?
In Settings, try another calculation method, switch the Asr setting between Standard and Hanafi, or adjust single prayers by a few minutes. Times are calculated by standard methods, so please follow your local mosque if you need exact times.
I did not get a reminder, or it came late.
Turn reminders on in the app and allow notifications. On Android 12 and later, open the app’s settings in Android and allow “Alarms & reminders”. Also set the app’s battery use to unrestricted, because some phones stop background alarms to save power. Open the app now and then so upcoming reminders are scheduled ahead (about a month at a time).
Does the app need my location?
No. You can pick your city from a list. If you choose “Use my location”, it is read once on your phone to calculate prayer times and is never sent anywhere.
The Qibla compass looks wrong.
Move the phone in a figure-8 to calibrate the compass, and keep it away from magnets, cases with magnets and metal objects. Allowing location lets the compass use true north.
The Hijri date is a day off.
In Settings you can shift the Hijri date by up to two days to match your local moon sighting.
What is the Qada counter?
A counter for make-up prayers. You enter the numbers yourself. The app never guesses which prayers you missed.
How do I move my data to a new phone?
On the old phone go to Settings, then Save backup, and send the file to Google Drive or yourself. On the new phone install Istiqamah, go to Settings, then Restore, and pick that file. CSV exports are for spreadsheets and cannot be restored.
How do I delete my data?
Uninstall the app, or clear its storage in Android settings.
